Listen To Our Future is a grassroots organization whose mission is to equip and empower youth to make long-lasting changes in their community through education, empowerment, and social action. Our K-6th grade tutoring program is free tutoring for youth in under-resourced areas around Indianapolis to increase academic achievement. This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to be engaged with and make a difference in the local community. Tutors will receive training from current educators on best practices, phonics, behavior management, etc. Tutors will also be supervised during tutoring sessions and given feedback frequently and engage in pre/post semester check-in meetings. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic tests.
  • Provide feedback to students, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
  • Teach students reading, math, and test-taking strategies 
  • Review tutoring material with students by discussing the text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
  • Assess students' progress throughout tutoring sessions
  • Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  • Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices or learn new tutoring techniques.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
  • Facilitate tutoring sessions
  • Review tutoring materials prior to the session.
  • Communicate students' progress to students and supervisors
  • Administer academic or diagnostic assessments.
  • The job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

     Must have previous experience working with youth

     Must a high school diploma or equivalent

     Must be reliable and able to manage tutoring sessions and students

     Must be willing to learn new skills

     Prepare and implement lesson plans

     Reliable transportation

     Tutoring times vary between 2:30-6:00, Monday through Friday

Preferred Qualifications

     Working knowledge of Google Drive

     Education major/degree holder, but not required
