Description

Purdue Extension delivers practical, research-based information that enhances lives and livelihoods.  The Owen County office is the home for a full time 4-H Youth Development Educator, a half time Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator, and a half time Health and Human Sciences Educator.  Our ideal intern will work with our team primarily in the 4-H program.  The intern will assist 4-H families preparing for fair events and activities so will be interfacing with the public regularly.  The CED/4-H Youth Educator will provide supervision.  Training on Extension specific computer applications will be done with the Educators and office manager.  Learning goals include building skills in teaching / mentoring youth, data management, and program development and evaluation.

Responsibilities

Answer phone calls, providing information and assistance for all Extension areas.

Assist 4-H youth and families with 4HOnline and Fair Entry.

Assist 4-H adult volunteers with event schedules and preparation, including distributing appropriate ribbons and awards for shows.

Assist in data entry and management for fair entries.

Develop and deliver at least one learning activity for youth to take place fair week.  Assist on other fair week learning activities.

Other duties as assigned.

MUST be available the two weeks before fair and fair week (June 20 to July 10, 2022)

 

Qualifications

Applicant must qualify for the EARN Indiana program.

Working knowledge of standard office procedures and basic computer applications such as those in the Google suite, Canva, Zoom, and others.

Ability to learn the basics of online tools used specifically by Indiana 4-H and Extension, including 4HOnline and FairEntry. 

Experience working with youth is a plus.

Experience working with the public is a plus.

All candidates must consent to a background check to include a check of the sex offender registry.

Selected candidate will be required to complete the Indiana 4-H Volunteer approval process which includes approximately one hour of online training.

Ability to effectively communicate orally, and in writing.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work rapidly, work on several tasks at one time, work under time constraints and with frequent distractions.

Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
