2023 Summer Internship
Description
is a partnership that pilots and contributes to community-engaged, sustainable, multidisciplinary research projects to address real world challenges in South Bend and Elkhart Indiana. Interns work in small project teams to approach complex community issues through technical, analytical, and empathetic problem-solving skills. Intern project teams use design thinking methodology, meet with stakeholders, and develop project plans to create meaningful and positive impact in the surrounding community.
Responsibilities
Interns will manage a project and the responsibilites will vary depending on the project they choose. Some of the responsibilites include vulnerabilities mapping on GIS, designing and impleemtning a curriculum, and creating a survey to locate lead service lines in the city.
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- Current or recently graduated college or high school student
- Must be 16 years or older at start of internship
- Must be available for the entire 8-week duration, June 12 - August 4, and work hours (College: 30 hours/week, High School: 30 hours/week) 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with some night and weekend meetings required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with project and community partners
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and in a group setting
- Interest in developing innovative solutions to community identified concerns
- U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
