Description

The Noble County IT Department in Albion, IN currently has a planned opening for a computer and network intern.  As a member of the IT staff, the intern will support a number of local government functions, providing technical assistance to employees.  The intern will work closely with the IT team and will be given ample opportunity to develop and exercise their technical repertoire in a number of areas.

This is a seasonal position and will involve working during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM) as well as possible occasional evenings or weekends.  The intern will work no more than 40 hours per week, with actual hours varying depending upon tasks assigned. This position is considered temporary.

Responsibilities

Various computer and networking tasks will be assigned:

  • Setup, configuration, and installation of new workstations
  • Network installation, configuration and troubleshooting
  • Server configuration and disaster recovery activities
  • Basic helpdesk support for applications
  • Troubleshooting of computer hardware issues
  • Research into solutions for current problems or new projects

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be enrolled full time at an Indiana college or university.  Students who are beginning their college education in an appropriate field are encouraged to apply.  Previous hands-on experience or coursework in computer hardware, software, networks, and communications highly desired.  
  • Candidates are expected to have a basic PC knowledge, including configuration of operating systems, hardware identification, basic networking principles, and troubleshooting. Candidates are expected to be skilled in using standard desktop applications (e.g. Word, Excel) and should also possess some basic knowledge of database applications and reporting.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) are essential, along with the ability to work both independently with little supervision and as part of a team.
