Youth Engagement Intern
Description
Ben Davis Christian Church is a community-focused, multi-ethnic nonprofit organization serving the west side of Indianapolis. Our mission is to equip people for life on mission through leadership development, community engagement, and meaningful service. Our internship program is designed to provide students with hands-on, practical experience in a real organizational setting while helping them grow professionally, personally, and vocationally.
The intern will serve as part of a collaborative staff team and will receive direct supervision from a designated ministry leader with regular check-ins, clear expectations, and ongoing feedback. Training will include onboarding in organizational systems, project planning, communication practices, and best practices related to youth engagement and community programs. In addition to day-to-day supervision, the intern will receive mentorship through intentional coaching conversations focused on leadership development, professional growth, and career discernment.
The primary learning goals for the intern are to develop transferable, career-ready skills and real-world experience. These goals include strengthening oral and written communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration, event planning, professionalism, and leadership capacity. The internship is structured to help the student apply academic learning to real projects, build confidence in a professional environment, and gain clarity about future career paths in nonprofit, community, or youth-focused work.
