Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on February 18 at the 14th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon. Though the event is over and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nominees’ successes.

Olatundun Awosanya is a senior at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She also completed an internship with Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

Olatundun Awosanya: These days I am working hard to finish my last semester of college strong. Having to switch from a classroom setting to complete online schooling has definitely been a learning curve, but I feel like I have finally gotten adjusted to it. Shelby Waligora is a senior at DeKalb High School. She completed an internship with The Community Foundation DeKalb County.

Indiana INTERNnet: Congrats on winning High School Intern of the Year at our 2020 IMPACT Awards! Now that your internship is over, what are you up to these days?

Shelby Waligora: Currently I am focusing on finishing my senior year strong at DeKalb High School with the added obstacles. I’m still interning at the Community Foundation; I will hit one year in January. I still hold the title as Promise Intern and still work closely with Promise Enrollment events at DeKalb County schools and still assist in planning the Walk Into My Future event. As time goes …

Indiana INTERNnet’s 14th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon will take place on February 18 at the Ritz Charles Ballrooms in Carmel. It will focus on celebrating internship excellence – featuring interviews with interns, employers and career development professionals about their best practices. The event will also be a celebration of 10,000 filled internships through our web site!

Indiana INTERNnet, managed by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, serves as the catalyst for the creation and expansion of experiential learning opportunities, with the goal of retaining the state’s top talent. The IMPACT Awards were launched to celebrate the significance of internships and highlight accomplishments throughout the state.

Honors will be presented in the areas of Intern Supervisor of the Year, Intern of the Year (high school, college and non-traditional), Career Development Professional of the Year (high school and college) and Employer of the Year (for-profit and nonprofit). Attendees will have the opportunity to …

In today’s blog post, Indiana INTERNnet intern Kayla Walke interviews Salvador Espinoza. Salvador was the winner of the 2016 High School Intern of the Year IMPACT Award, and has been nominated for College Intern of the Year multiple times.

Indiana INTERNnet: What are some of the best lessons you learned while interning?

Salvador Espinoza: I think the best lesson I ever learned was to never underestimate the power of an internship. I was 16 years old when I got into my first internship and it was for a manufacturing company. That already doesn’t sound appealing to most teens trying to make a quick buck over the summer, but it sounded like a great opportunity and it ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was an intern for the same company for 6 years and learned so many things. I learned about marketing, human resources, what …

Gabriella (Moline) Blauert graduated from Butler University in May with a degree in journalism and moved to Columbus, Ohio. She’s currently working as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Pelotonia, a non-profit organization in Columbus whose proceeds go toward cancer research.

Indiana INTERNnet: What are some of the best lessons you learned while interning?

Gabriella Blauert: My internships provided me with opportunities to practically apply the skills I learned in class. I learned how to utilize these skills, while also managing my time effectively. Another important lesson I learned was how to interact in different job settings and how to present myself in a professional way in each one.

IIN: What advice do you have for current interns?
