Virtual Summer Events for Interns

Iā€™m so excited to announce that I am back on the Indiana INTERNnet team for the summer! If you remember my name, you know I was an intern last year through the summer and fall semesters. I am now back as the interim program assistant. It’s good to be back.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many internships around the state. Despite the challenges, employers throughout Indiana arenā€™t letting this stop professional development. Instead, theyā€™re providing virtual opportunities as they strive to prepare the stateā€™s future workforce.

Indiana INTERNet and other Indiana organizations are offering free events to enjoy from the comfort of your own home while learning from career professionals in a wide range of areas. Young professionals can use these opportunities to understand and develop new skills by understanding personal branding, learning how to utilize LinkedIn and much more.

Summer Intern Networking Events

Indiana INTERNnet hosts intern engagement activities around the Indianapolis area. However, it’s important to note that there are summer intern events happening all throughout the state. Know the events in your area, and above all, make an effort to network. You can still enjoy your summer days and make your internship memorable!

South Bend

South Bend Regional Chamber is kicking off their Summer Connect 2019 events on June 5th! Interns can network with other young professionals while learning about the excitement of living in the South Bend region. For instance, interns will be exposed to an exciting speaker series introducing them to fascinating people from around the South Bend area. How Important is Networking, Really?

College students hear it again and again ā€“ network, network, network! However, building and maintaining professional relationships is often not high on a studentā€™s list of priorities. The thought of initiating a conversation can be intimidating. Even once introductions and connections have been made, it is difficult for individuals to keep in touch. Schedules are typically overflowing with academic, financial, and personal responsibilities, which does not leave a lot of room for attending networking events. It can be easy to put off networking and ignore event opportunities, with the hopes your schedule will be less full later. That is not the case. Forty-nine percent of todayā€™s professionals say that it is difficult to maintain relationships with their network due to a lack of free time, according to a 2017 LinkedIn survey.

Interns and Mentors Invited to Five Summer Events

Interns and internship supervisors from organizations throughout central Indiana are invited to events at The Childrenā€™s Museum of Indianapolis (May 31), Fountain Square Theatre Rooftop Garden (June 1), Indianapolis Zoo (July 10), Indiana State Fair (August 3) and meet@TheChallenge (August 23). Each will offer professional development and networking opportunities in addition to time to explore the venues and have fun.

The Childrenā€™s Museum of IndianapolisĀ event will begin at 9 a.m. with an interactive workshop. Prior to that, check-in will be held at 8:30 a.m., and interns will be invited to participate in a networking game. Following the workshop, attendees will be free to explore The Childrenā€™s Museum until it closes at 5 p.m. Guests will have access to The Riley Childrenā€™s Health Sports Legends Experience.
