Description
Knox County Public Library is seeking an assistant to provide support for the summer reading program in the library's youth department throughout the summer. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills and attention to detail. Candidate must be dependable and able to adhere to a work schedule. The assistant will help prepare for and conduct multiple programs for children and families each week. The assistant will be trained to use reading program registration computer software and will register participants in the summer reading program.
The assistant will be trained to use the library's integrated library system (ils) and will use this system to search for and loan materials to library patrons.
Responsibilities
*Help prepare crafts and other activities.
*Help plan and conduct programs for youth ages infant through 18 years.
*Answer informational questions pertaining to the library's summer reading program and basic library services.
*Answer phones and help patrons choose materials to borrow from the library.
*Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
*College student
*Courses completed in child development, children's literature and education preferred.
*Positive experiences in working with youth preferred.
*Courses completed in computer technology, online information retrieval and familiarity with integrated library systems preferred.
