Description

The Evelyn Lehman Culp Heritage Collection at the Nappanee Center needs a dependable and detail-oriented student for up to 40 hours a week. This student will assist the Heritage Collection staff in working toward the goal of completing an inventory of the museum collection of approximately 40,000 objects and helping welcome visitors to the museum.

Hours are somewhat flexible, but weekends are required. The rate of pay is $10.75 per hour.

The Heritage Collection focuses on the history of Nappanee, Indiana, both before and after its incorporation, and its surrounding area. The collection is housed within the Nappanee Center, 302 West Market Street.

Responsibilities

The recipient of this work study will be:

  • recording critical object data, including number, name, description, overall condition, and available provenance.
  • entering data into our PastPerfect database.
  • helping welcome and guide museum visitors.
  • assigned other duties as needed, including but not limited to, doing research, helping arrange exhibits, and preparing items for storage.
  • helping with museum programming.

Qualifications

Applicants for this work study should:

  • be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • possess an interest in history.
  • be able to memorize large amounts of information.
  • be comfortable working with computers.

Nappanee residents preferred.

Applications received by November 15, 2021, will receive priority consideration, but applications will be accepted until an intern is chosen.

Students eligible for this opportunity must be part of the Indiana State EARN Indiana Program. Student status will be verified prior to hiring.
