IMD Machinist Internship
Description
Instrumental Machine & Development (IMD) is a contract manufacturing shop that specializes in orthopedic instrumentation. As a member of Orthoworx, IMD is one of four companies in the Warsaw area participating in RAMP (Regional Advanced Manufacturing Program). In this program students from Warsaw Area Career Center receive two years of training in the orthopedic industry. In the second year of this pilot program, students will maintain an internship status, maintaining the responsibilities and guidelines as an IMD employee.
Students' progress will be supervised by IMD's Training and Education Supervisor who works in tandem with the students' Work Based Learning teacher. More specifically, however, students will be directly overseen by IMD employees working in the mill, lathe, bench, clean, and polish areas.
Responsibilities
Check in with VP of Production. Measuring parts. Reading blueprints. Filling coolant. Ensuring machines are running at capacity.
Qualifications
Time management. Communication. Valid work based learning program with communication through school.
Learning Objectives
Expose student to orthopedic industry through quality management system, CNC machining, and inspection.
