Description
Indiana University- Bloomington, 21st Century Scholars Program Office. The participants will have direct supervision by the Director of the 21st Century Scholars Office and additional supervision by the Assistant Vice President for Student Success.
Primary Role: The Project Assistant EARN Indiana Internship for the 21st Century Scholars Program is responsible for carrying out assigned tasks under direct supervision and independently. The primary area of responsibility is to provide project management, assessment, and evaluation within the areas of project development, event facilitation, and peer development.
Interns will be imbedded in the 21st Century Scholars Program staff and one with the Assistant Vice President's team and receive the necessary ongoing training and mentoring from the supervisor/team.
The learning goals are development of skills in the following areas assessment and reporting, data collection and management, program development, interpersonal communication, leadership and student development, and working with secure data.
Application of these skills and ongoing evaluation to promote professional growth and development.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties/Responsibilities May Include:
- Assessment and Evaluation and support of the following areas:
- Event Facilitation
- Peer Development
- Project Development
- Evaluations of all Indiana Black Expo, Indiana Latino Institute, and Indiana Latino Expo recruitment and ultimate matriculation of underrepresented students with an emphasis on 21st Century Scholars under the Supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Strategy, Planning, and Assessment
- Evaluations and strategizing the career readiness programs for 21st CSP
- Follow FERPA policy and confidentiality
- Other duties as assigned with less than 25% considered clerical in pursuit of the above responsibilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Intern must be enrolled as full-time IUB undergraduate students during the 2025-2026 academic term which may include summer. Must maintain a 2.5 minimum semester and cumulative GPA for the duration of their service.
Minimum Experience:
Demonstrated experience with coursework, programming, planning, and social media experience.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Self-motivated, organized, and responsible
- Able to work in a close team environment as well as independently
- Ability to work comfortably and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Possess an interest in event planning and marketing
- Knowledge of common office computer software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Possess good problem-solving and decision-making skills
Learning Objectives
- Develop assessment and evaluation skills by designing, administering, and analyzing surveys, student interviews, focus groups, and program evaluations to assess the needs and outcomes of 21st Century Scholars.
- Gain experience in program planning and improvement by using assessment findings to recommend and implement strategies that address the needs of diverse student populations.
- Strengthen project management skills by assisting with the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student success initiatives and departmental projects.
- Develop strategic communication skills by creating targeted outreach campaigns and messaging templates to improve engagement and responsiveness among at-risk 21st Century Scholars.
- Enhance digital communication and marketing competencies by creating educational and promotional content for Canvas, Instagram, departmental webpages, and other digital platforms that support student engagement and program awareness.
- Strengthen written communication skills by co-creating the Scholar Family Newsletter and evaluating its effectiveness through data collection and stakeholder feedback.
- Gain experience working with diverse populations by collaborating with students, families, campus partners, and community organizations to support equitable access to resources and student success initiatives.
- Develop peer leadership and coaching skills by serving as a Peer Coach, fostering student connection, supporting peer development, and assisting advisors with follow-up related to Mid-Semester Progress Reports and SMART Goal achievement.
- Build proficiency in student success technologies by utilizing BeInvolved and other institutional platforms to collect data, monitor student progress, and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Strengthen event facilitation and engagement skills by supporting the planning, coordination, and assessment of student events and career readiness programming for 21st Century Scholars.
- Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibility by maintaining confidentiality, adhering to FERPA regulations, and exercising sound judgment when handling student information.
- Develop organizational sustainability practices by creating a comprehensive resource guide and documented processes to support future interns and ensure continuity of program operations.
- Enhance collaboration and professional communication by working effectively with supervisors, advisors, faculty, campus departments, and community partners to accomplish strategic program goals.
- Demonstrate adaptability and professional growth by completing assigned responsibilities, including administrative and clerical tasks, while contributing to continuous improvement efforts that support the mission of the 21st Century Scholars Program.
