Description
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work directly with the Engineering Manager, who will serve as the intern’s primary supervisor, and will be paired with an experienced member of the Engineering team who will serve as a mentor. The intern will receive hands-on training in areas such as mechanical design, CAD, product and process improvement, engineering documentation, troubleshooting, testing, and manufacturing processes.
Training will be provided through direct instruction, observation, participation in active engineering projects, and progressively independent assignments as the intern demonstrates proficiency. The Engineering Manager will oversee the intern’s responsibilities and overall development, while the mentor will provide day-to-day guidance, technical support, and opportunities to learn through practical application. The intern will also work alongside Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to understand how Engineering supports the overall manufacturing process.
Learning goals include developing the ability to apply mechanical engineering principles in a manufacturing environment, strengthening CAD and technical problem-solving skills, understanding engineering drawings and documentation, gaining experience with manufacturing processes and continuous improvement, and learning how engineering projects progress from identifying a problem through developing and implementing a solution. The intern will also develop professional skills including communication, project management, teamwork, critical thinking, and working effectively with both technical and non-technical employees.
Progress toward these learning goals will be supported through ongoing coaching and feedback, along with formal midpoint and final evaluations to assess performance, development, and progress toward established learning objectives.

- Review, update, and redraw 2D and 3D mechanical drawings to reflect as-built production equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
- Maintain proper revision control of engineering drawings and documentation within the shared drive/PDM system.
- Perform basic mechanical design of brackets, guards, fixtures, jigs, and other minor components from concept through detailed drawings.
- Take field measurements to verify dimensions and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) for production equipment and tooling.
- Assist with as-built drawing updates supporting the Line 2 automation project.
- Support the design and development of guards and fixtures for production equipment.
- Assist with title block and drawing template standardization to improve engineering documentation consistency.
Qualifications

- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET).
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred; AutoCAD or Inventor acceptable).
- Coursework in engineering drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Completion of an introductory CAD or Machine Design course.
- Familiarity with basic manufacturing processes, including machining and sheet metal.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to take accurate field measurements.
- Strong documentation and revision-control practices.
