Shop Intern

Description

We are a locally owned, family-operated cabinet and countertop manufacturer serving residential and commercial customers in central Indiana. Our team builds high-quality laminate countertops and cabinets, as well as acrylic solid surface countertops right in our shop in Franklin, Indiana. We are looking for a high school aged intern (or recent graduate) with an interest in learning hands-on skills in a woodshop environment.

Responsibilities

1. Assisting experienced team members with fabrication of cabinets and countertops
2. Capable of learning the cutting, assembly, sanding and cleaning of materials
3. Learn to safely operate woodworking equipment under supervision
4. Help maintain a clean, organized and safe shop
5. Willing to identify and correct errors to help maintain high quality standards
6. Loading and unloading materials for shipping and receiving

Qualifications

1. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated high school
2. Dependable with good attendance
3. Positive attitude and willingness to learn
4. Able to work as a team, and take direction from other team members
5. Able to lift 50 pounds
6. Capable of reading & using a tape measurer to verify material sizes
7. General interest in woodworking, construction, manufacturing or other carpentry trades

Learning Objectives

By the end of this internship, students will :

1. Develop safe and productive work habits using a variety of tools and equipment
2. Learn the basics of how countertops and cabinets are built
3. Improvement of problem solving and attention to detail skills
4. Build on teamwork and communication skills
5. Learn time management and the personal responsibilities within a production environment
