Challenge Island is hiring fun and smart instructors to lead exciting, hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) field trips, after school enrichment, and camps! Think Survivor meets Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader! Our programs deliver high-energy learning with a unique island flair.

What We Offer:

Locations:

Classes and field trips take place at local daycares, schools, and partner organizations across Hamilton & Marion County.

Schedule & Hours:

1. Part-Time: 2 to 7 hours per week (varies based on field trip demand; occasional early afternoon flexibility is appreciated).
2. Availability: Must be available between 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM or 2:45pm-4:30pm at least 2 days per week.

Pay Structure:

· $40 per after school class, birthday party, kids night out, family engagement, seniors, girl scouts, field trip (no longer than 90 minutes).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Delivery: Lead engaging, high-energy 60- to 90-minute STEAM field trips and camps following provided Challenge Island curriculum and lesson plans.
2. Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, positive, and enthusiastic learning environment for groups of preschool and elementary-aged children using positive reinforcement and assertive behavior management.
3. Materials & Site Prep: Transport, set up, and clean up all program supplies, challenge materials, and island-themed props at rotating partner locations (daycares, private schools, community sites).
4. Team Leadership & Collaboration: Guide students through collaborative engineering and science challenges, facilitating teamwork, problem-solving, and friendly competition (Survivor-style).
5. Site Communication: Act as a professional representative of Challenge Island when interacting with host site administrators, teachers, and parents.

Qualifications

Requirements:

1. Experience Required: Prior experience teaching or leading preschool or elementary-aged children.
2. Passion: Must genuinely love working with and inspiring kids.
3. Reliability: Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliable personal transportation at all times.
4. Physical Capability: Physically able to keep up with active, high-energy children without physical limitations.
5. Key Traits: Common sense, assertiveness, organizational skills, a sense of humor, and composure under pressure.
6. Background Check: Must pass a standard criminal background check prior to hiring.

Learning Objectives

1. High-Energy Group Facilitation: Master the ability to command room attention, manage group dynamics, and maintain high engagement using experiential, interactive learning techniques.
2. Applied Classroom & Behavior Management: Hone strategies for positive reinforcement, rapid dynamic resetting, and assertive conflict resolution across diverse age groups (preschool through elementary).
3. Adaptability & On-the-Fly Problem Solving: Build confidence in delivering structured curriculum dynamically across varied host environments (daycares, private schools, community hubs) with shifting room layouts and time constraints.
4. Collaborative Leadership & Coaching: Learn how to guide child-led team dynamics, transitioning from a traditional teacher role into a facilitator who fosters teamwork and resilience.
5. STEAM Curriculum Execution: Gain practical experience presenting hands-on engineering, design-thinking, and creative problem-solving frameworks.
