Administrative Assistant
Description
At Ernsberger Law, we bridge the gap between academic theory and legal practice through a hands-on learning program designed to develop the next generation of legal professionals. Our internship places students directly into the environment of active casework, legal research, client advocacy, and courtroom experience. We view our interns as junior colleagues capable of making meaningful contributions to our practice from the supervision of our attorneys and paralegals. Through this structured framework, student goals are to gain a realistic understanding of the daily responsibilities, ethical and confidential standards, and strategic thinking required to succeed in a legal career.
Responsibilities
An intern at Ernsberger Law engages in substantive tasks that build foundational legal skills and supports ongoing litigation. They spend a significant amount of time conducting legal research using databases like LexisNexis to analyze statutes, case law, and regulations. Additionally, they assist with trial preparation by organizing case files, compiling discovery materials, and reviewing documents. Beyond desk work, interns often shadow attorneys during client consultations, depositions, and courtroom proceedings to gain firsthand exposure to the legal field.
Qualifications
Our intern must posses strong academic fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and a high level of professionalism. Candidates should have strong writing skills and sharp attention to detail, as they frequently handle sensitive legal documents and correspondence. Strong organization skills and the ability to use standard office software are necessary. Our law firm handles confidential client information and a successful intern must exhibit discretion and strong ethical judgment.
Learning Objectives
Our high school intern will develop professional skills and a realistic understanding of the legal system. They will build practical legal knowledge by learning how cases move from initial client consultation to courtroom resolution. Our intern will gain critical thinking and research skills by analyzing complex information and key arguments. They will enhance their written and verbal communication through drafting professional correspondence and observing formal legal advocacy. Additionally, the experience teaches the student how to work in a law office, manage tight deadlines, and maintain strict client confidentiality.
