Bertha's Mission, Inc. is seeking a motivated and dependable student interested in learning all aspects of operating a nonprofit organization. This work-based learning opportunity provides hands-on experience working directly with the Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of the Mission. The intern will gain practical experience in nonprofit administration, fundraising, grant development, financial management, community outreach, donor relations, volunteer engagement, data analysis, and event planning.

This position is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice by allowing the student to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world nonprofit setting. Through meaningful involvement in organizational operations, the intern will develop responsible workplace habits, professional communication skills, leadership abilities, and other transferable competencies that are applicable across a variety of career fields.

The internship will expose the student to diverse populations, community challenges, and nonprofit solutions, helping them broaden their worldview, increase cultural awareness, and better understand the role nonprofit organizations play in meeting community needs. Through interactions with donors, volunteers, community partners, and individuals served by the Mission, the student will strengthen internal and external relationship-building skills while gaining valuable professional experience.

This work-based learning experience also provides meaningful benefits to Bertha's Mission, Inc. The intern's contributions will support organizational capacity by assisting with administrative operations, donor management, grant research, financial tracking, reporting, fundraising initiatives, and community outreach efforts. The student's work will help improve operational efficiency, strengthen stakeholder engagement, enhance data collection and analysis, and support the organization's efforts to secure funding and expand services within the community.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the student will receive ongoing supervision, mentorship, and professional development while gaining firsthand insight into nonprofit leadership, strategic decision-making, financial stewardship, and resource development. This collaborative partnership is intended to prepare the student for future career success while advancing the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.

Compensation: Approximately 20 hours per week at $14.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the Executive Director on the organization's daily operations.

Provide general office support, including filing, organizing records, and maintaining documentation.

Assist with data entry and donor database management.

Track and chart meals served and delivered weekly.

Monitor reports and maintain accurate organizational records (Once a month)

Prepare donor correspondence and assist with donor relations.

Answer and direct phone calls professionally.

Conduct grant research to identify potential funding opportunities. (Occasionally)

Assist the Executive Director with preparing and submitting grant applications (Occasionally)

Use QuickBooks to assist with financial reporting and recordkeeping (training provided).

Help monitor organizational costs, budgets, and financial trends (Quarterly)

Assist with data analysis, including collecting, tracking, and interpreting information to support decision-making and budget planning.

Support fundraising activities and assist with the planning and implementation of fundraising events (Quarterly)

Assist with community outreach programs and special events (Quarterly)

Collaborate with staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to further the organization's mission.

Qualifications

Poses written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Reliable transportation and the ability to consistently arrive at work on time.

Basic knowledge of business or financial principles.

Willingness and ability to learn QuickBooks.

Experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Grant research or grant writing experience is preferred but not required.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.

Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
