  2. Compliance Audit Support: assist in auditing Medicaid waiver provider files (licensing, service authorizations, annual renewals) against FSSA/DDRS requirements and prepare compliance summaries for executive review.
  3. Software QA & User Testing: test features of our healthcare CRM platform, document defects and workflow issues, and propose improvements based on testing results.
  4. Policy & Documentation Projects: help draft and refine HIPAA-compliant policies, audit logs, and staff training materials.

Routine office support (filing, scheduling, correspondence) comprises less than 25% of the internship.

Qualifications

  1. Currently enrolled college/university student (EARN Indiana-eligible students strongly encouraged to apply; all majors welcome, especially health administration, public health, health information management, business, or IT).
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Detail-oriented with basic analytical skills; comfortable working with spreadsheets and learning new software quickly.
  4. Able to handle confidential information with absolute discretion (HIPAA training provided; NDA required).
  5. Reliable and punctual, with 15-20 hours per week available and scheduling flexibility around class timetables.
  6. Genuine interest in healthcare administration, Medicaid policy, compliance, or healthcare technology — no clinical background required; this is a non-clinical, administrative-operations internship.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this structured 12-week internship, interns will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamentals of Indiana's Medicaid waiver system, including FSSA/DDRS/BDS structure, provider enrollment, and annual renewal compliance for personal services agencies and waiver providers.
  2. Apply HIPAA Privacy and Security rules to real administrative workflows, including proper handling of protected health information in digital document systems.
  3. Describe the life cycle of a Medicaid claim, from visit verification and EVV compliance through submission, tracking, and denial management.
  4. Perform basic quality-assurance reviews of compliance documentation, including audit preparation, audit log maintenance, and incident report logging.
  5. Demonstrate hands-on proficiency with specialized healthcare CRM and enterprise administrative software platforms.
  6. Translate analysis into professional deliverables: the internship culminates in a process-improvement report presented to the CEO, mirroring a real-world business deliverable.
