Session 1: Foundations of High-Quality Work-Based Learning: Building the Foundation for Success
Tuesday, December 2nd 11:30am-1:30pm (ET)
Description: This training is designed for industry partners who are committed to delivering impactful work-based learning (WBL) experiences. This foundational course explores the core elements that define high-quality WBL and provides participants with the tools, strategies, and frameworks needed to build, implement, and sustain successful programs. Whether you're new to WBL or seeking to strengthen existing efforts, this session provides a solid foundation for developing programs that prepare employers for success.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the types and purposes of WBL (job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, etc.)
- Define high-quality WBL components (structural, currency based, competency based, etc.)
- Learn the employer’s role in education-to-career pathways
Topics Covered:
- Benefits to employers and learners
- Legal and compliance basics (FLSA, minor labor laws, liability, company policy, safety)
- Access to WBL
- Developing clear learning objectives aligned with career pathways

Session 2: Managing the WBL Experience: Designing with Intention, Crafting Meaningful Learning Experiences

Description: This session focuses on intentional design, ensuring that every WBL experience is thoughtfully planned, aligned to learning objectives, and tailored to meet the developmental needs of students. Throughout the session participants will engage with the development of strategic documentation, processes, and procedures to improve or implement within their work-based learning program.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to design a structured and impactful WBL program
- Understand how to onboard, train, and support learners effectively
- Develop internship descriptions, project plans, assignments

- Setting clear expectations and deliverables
- Onboarding and orientation best practices
- Effective mentorship and coaching strategies
- Troubleshooting common challenges

Session 3: From Internship to Impact: WBL Evaluation, Feedback, and Continuous Improvement

Description: This training is results-driven, designed to help employer partners assess and enhance the effectiveness of work-based learning (WBL) programs. As WBL continues to grow as a critical component of career readiness, ensuring its quality and relevance through ongoing evaluation is essential.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand how to evaluate learner and program performance
- Learn how to gather and apply feedback for future cohorts
- Explore recognition, retention, and recruitment strategies
Topics Covered:
- Creating evaluation rubrics and feedback forms
- Gathering feedback from students and supervisors
- Highlighting WBL success stories and showcasing talent
- Using WBL to build a long-term talent pipeline
