Internship Description: Provides analytical support for the enterprise.  The intern will be assigned a variety of assignments designed to complement their current level of academic training while learning new methodologies and analytical tools.  Significant exposure to value based contracts and various provider incentive programs.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Research and document new and innovative analytical tools available in the market.
  2. Conduct analysis and prepare metrics on hospital systems and provider groups to support provider contracting methodologies and potential provider incentive programs.
  3. Identify areas where cost and/or utilization need to be reduced, and recommend contractual solutions or internal procedures to address these concerns.
  4. Provide analytical support for the Provider Services Department, including assigned projects and specific provider requests.
  5. Performs any relevant and related duties as required.

 

Learning Outcomes: How will the student enhance their career knowledge by interning at the company with their position title? What will the student gain from the internship, and how will it help them apply it to their professional career development? The intern will:

  • Learn various provider reimbursement models for both commercial and government sponsored coverage.  Intern will understand value based reimbursement concepts including attribution and full risk capitation.
  • Learn to perform basic cost and utilization measurements for a variety of different medical benefits and cost structures.
  • Learn to work effectively with all levels of employees across multiple departments in meeting internal and external requirements.
  • Make a presentation to Data Governance Committee on Data Analytics. Intern will use both analytics expertise and market knowledge to create a strategic business plan specific to the market using relevant, actionable information for those discussions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Self-directed individual with the ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision.
    • Strong analytical, project management and presentation skills including both verbal and written communication.
    • Detail oriented, with effective research and problem solving skills.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
    • Ability to analyze sources of information, documentation and contracts.
    • Analytical abilities required to manipulate data programs used in generating descriptive reports and in their corresponding analysis.
    • Organizational skills necessary to coordinate and prioritize workload.
    • Ability to work well in a team environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to maintain a customer focused attitude.
    • Experience, familiarity, or exposure to coding methodologies and tools.

 

 

  • Preferred:
    • Proficient with SQL server database or other applications
    • A working knowledge of medical coding (ICD10, CPT) and business terminology.
    • Ability to understand PHP custom database layout, format, and information usage.

 

Dress code: Most staff members are allowed to dress in casual attire five (5) days a week.  Appropriate business attire is required for anyone conducting face-to-face business with current and/or prospective clients, customers, providers, vendors, etc. while at PHP or at another site.  Certain positions that require customer contact may have a limited casual dress policy as decided by the department manager.
