Safety & Security: Traffic Management Intern
Description
The Traffic Management Intern will be an integral part of the planning and execution of traffic operations during the State Fair. This position will work with the Public Safety Event Coordinator, Director of Safety & Security, State Fair law enforcement officers, and IMPD to strategically route ingress and egress traffic in and around the Fairgrounds. The intern will learn how to coordinate resources and support incidents throughout the Fair. This intern will learn how to effectively communicate current conditions and how to forecast and communicate changing conditions. This position is appropriate for undergraduate or graduate students who desire a career in law enforcement, emergency management, or special events.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the creation of the traffic management plan to include routes, personnel and required resources.
- Provide situational awareness for the Operations Center regarding traffic status and changes in flow.
- Assist with planning and creation of procedures that will govern the Fairgrounds when emergency response is necessary.
- Interact with guests and other personnel daily and provide a high level of customer service during complex situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Background or education in law enforcement or public safety preferred.
- Strong computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and Windows Explorer.
