Department Information
The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) is recognized as a statewide institute supported by a Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) and the National Center for Advancing Translational Science. Indiana CTSI has research partnerships with Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame which also includes life sciences, businesses and community organizations. Furthermore, Indiana CTSI engages with the public at every level of research from basic science to patient care.
Job Summary
The Indiana CTSI is seeking a personable and dynamic storyteller to help with communications efforts. This internship is a unique opportunity to get to know researchers across our partner campuses and share their stories with the academic community, as well as the public. The ideal candidate should enjoy meeting new people and integrating themselves into a busy and diverse community. Stories will be shared through the Indiana CTSI newsletter, social accounts, and internally, and will ideally use mediums such as long and short-form text, photo, and even video.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Indiana CTSI Communications Manager to develop professional and communications skills, learn, and engage with department communications strategies, and partake in professional development
- Creates novel content promoting the Indiana CTSI’s mission of bringing together Indiana’s brightest minds to solve the state’s most pressing health challenges through stories, blog posts and internal/external communications
- Responsible for contributing to the communications team’s social media posting efforts
- Updates event calendars and posts stories to the Indiana CTSI website
- Assists with e-communications and newsletters
- Collaborates with Communications Manager on new ideas, directions, tools, and professional development for communications
- Attends professional development sessions and meetings
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University in the second semester of junior year or above
- Seeking a degree in journalism, communications, health communications, or public relations
Required skills
- Strong writing or storytelling experience
- Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn
- Understanding of the basic principles of communications and/or public relations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft and Acrobat
- Demonstrated self-starter, good time management and creative
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to work independently or with a team
- Resilient and able to adapt to a fast-moving and changing workplace
Preferred skills
- Photo, audio, and video skills
- Basic skills in design (InDesign, Canva, Express, etc.)
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
