Description
At Mental Health America of Hendricks County (MHAHC), our mission is to promote mental wellness and prevent suicide throughout the community. Central to this mission is our Clubhouse, a member-driven program where individuals actively participate in the daily life of the organization. Clubhouse members volunteer alongside staff and peers to help run all aspects of the program, from reception and food preparation to clerical work, outreach, and social events. Members take on leadership roles, offer peer support, and collaborate to build confidence, skills, and a shared sense of purpose that supports recovery, connection, and future employment or independent living, without tasks being required or tied to payment.
The Clubhouse model is an evidence-based approach to mental health recovery and is nationally and internationally recognized for its effectiveness. Clubhouses operate according to a set of research-informed standards and best practices that emphasize dignity, choice, and community integration. MHAHC is committed to maintaining fidelity to this accredited model, ensuring that members receive high-quality, consistent programming that has been proven to support improved mental health outcomes, increased social connection, and greater independence. MHAHC views internships as hands-on, experiential learning opportunities. Interns gain meaningful, real-world experience while working alongside knowledgeable staff who provide coaching, mentorship, and practical skill-building to complement academic coursework. A general interest in mental health and community well-being is highly valued in all internship roles.
Our internship opportunities are designed to be flexible and accommodating. Interns typically work 12-20 hours per week and may commit to placements ranging from 16 weeks to a full year. While longer placements often allow for deeper learning and engagement, adjustments can be made to align with academic program requirements or individual schedules. Internship opportunities are generally available year-round, with summer positions being the most popular and competitive.
