Description

Carver Community Organization is a nonprofit that provides unique programs and services within a safe enviroment that teaches respect for self, others and the community.  This internship (Summer Camp Counselor) will provide students the opportunity to work with a group of 15 children and teenagers during summer camp activities.  Students will be responsible for organizing camping trips and developing recreational plans for indoor and outdoor activities such as sports, skill building, and arts and crafts and various other physical activities to create fitness awareness and help improve the health of children.  Supervision will be under the Multigenerational Program Coordinator.  

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement summer camp games and activities. 
  • Set-up and take down equipment. Conduct inspections to ensure the camp environment is clean and free of hazard. 
  • Escort and monitor children on field trips to recreational locations. 
  • Maintain open communications with parents. 
  • Assist other staff members with daily tasks. 
  • Provide social and emotional support to camp attendees.
  • Maintain a clean orderly learning environment that keeps campers safe. 
  • Participate alongside campers in outdoor activities. 
  • Develop plans for activities such as outdoor sports, skill building, and art and crafts. 
  • Maintain accurate record of camp activities and data such as attendance logs and incident reports. 
  • Mediate disputes or conflicts between campers to ensure a peaceful environment. 
  • Communicate with other camp staff to ensure the needs of individual campers are met.
  • Maintain confidentiality accuracy of personal information.
  • Other camp related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED; Associate degree completed or in progress, preferably in the field of Education or Social Work; or a Child and Youth Care Practitioner certification.
  • Complete pre-employment screening.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to safely operate a van.
  • CPR/First Aid training.
