Description

Geyer Fire Protection is a comprehensive fire protection company that specializes in the design, installation, inspection, and maintenance of full-scale fire protection sprinkler systems, alarms, extinguishers and more.  The selected intern would be fully immersed in many aspects of the fire protection trade, and gain valuable exposure to an array of dynamic business operations. This internship will provide a unique opportunity to job-shadow our superintendents/foremen at construction job sites, and observe and experience how our designers utilize CAD software to design sprinkler systems. Additionally, the intern will be involved in the day-to-day administration and management of different projects, gaining practical experience in business administration/finance, sales, service and marketing.

Responsibilities

Shadowing at Job Sites:  The intern will be in an observational perspective to experience the process of preparing, installing, and testing of sprinkler systems in new and existing buildings.  The intern may be asked to perform light duty work including carrying materials, retrieving tools, and  assisting with communication.  No technical skills are needed.  The intern will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, glove, boots, and high-visibility clothing.  With the exception of boots, all PPE items listed will be provided for the intern.

Sales and Marketing:  The intern will be introduced to and involved in sales/marketing strategies and activities such as design of sales materials using different computer programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat).  Additionally, the intern will also be involved in managing and developing the company's social media presence using various social platforms.  This internship will provide an opportunity to observe and participate in multiple facets of the sales process, from implementing strategies to engage prospective and existing sales leads, to the signing of a service contract.

Business Operations:  The selected intern will gain invaluable practical experience as they assist with multiple functions related to business operations and logistics.  Funcations could include tasks such as inventory management in the warehouse (such as inventory counts, organization), auditing of project data and metrics, or researching software/tools to increase productivity.  Although not typical, depending on the urgency, the intern could be involved with delivery of supplies and materials to a job site using a company vehicle.

Financial Operations:  The intern may be introduced to overview of accounting processes and financial principles required to operate a business.  This portion of the internship would be heavily observational and center around discussions with our staff regarding accounts payable/receivable, payroll processes, etc.

Qualifications

There are no essential prerequisite management experience required.  The role is intended for college students to receive hands-on experience with business operations, and to and gain a basic understanding of the fire protection industry.  Through this process, the intern will learn different areas of the business that may inspire further interest in the actual Sprinkler Fitter trade, areas of focus applicable to a Business Major, and/or technical skills such as CAD/design professional.
