Description

The library is seeking an assistant to provide support to our busy children's department at the main library through the summer. We are looking for a good listener who is dependable, friendly, and hardworking. The position involves assisting the children's librarian to prepare and manage multiple library programs both indoors and outside for all ages of youth. The children's librarian will provide orientation and basic training in library practices including answering phones, assisting patrons to find materials, checking books in and out, shelf reading, shelving and straightening. The intern will learn about program planning for different sizes of groups and how to effectively work as part of a team. 

Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation, setup, and cleanup for library crafts and activities. 

Answer directional questions and questions related to summer reading. 

Answer phones. 

Help patrons collect prizes for the summer reading program. 

Help patrons find materials using the library's online catalog. 

Qualifications

Must be a high school student, dependable and have a positive outlook. 

Some experience working with youth is preferred.
