Description

Brooks Construction is seeking motivated high school students, interested in learning about the ins and outs of the Heavy Highway/Civil construction industry, to join our team as a 2024 Summer High School Intern. Each internship will be customized to best align with your current/anticipated field of study, industry related interests, as well as any relevant prior experience you may have. You will be paired with a company mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout the duration of the internship. Our goal is to ensure you are provided the best possible opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience, through a “hands on” learning approach, that will expose you to the wide range of roles necessary for the successful operation of an Industry Leading Heavy Highway/Civil Construction company.

Responsibilities

Each and every job function, at any workplace, plays a critical role in the company’s success. As a company that relies heavily on our “boots on the ground”, we feel there is great value in learning this industry from the ground up. This means that you should expect to spend most of your time in the field working on jobsites. You will be asked to take on a variety of responsibilities throughout the summer, each of which will differ based on which divisions of the company you rotate through. Your customized internship will consist of one or more of the following divisions:

  • Asphalt Paving – Commercial/Private (Field Operations)
  • Asphalt Patching/Milling (Field Operations)
  • Concrete (Field Operations)
  • Earthwork/Pipe/Grade-Prep (Field Operations)
  • Asphalt Plant/Materials – (Field Operations)
  • Surveying/Layout/Machine Control (Field/Office Operations)
  • Quality Control/Mix Design – (Lab/Office/Field Operations)
  • Equipment/Logistics – (Office/Field Operations)
  • Safety – (Field/Office Operations)

These statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work involved for this job.  It is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of this job. Additional responsibilities may be assigned, as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Brooks Construction prides itself on a workplace culture that emphasizes Teamwork. We could not thrive in this industry if it were not for our employees’ willingness to do whatever is asked of them on a daily basis. That same willingness and spirit of Teamwork will be expected from our interns. In addition, we ask that the following qualifications can be met at/prior to the start date of the internship:

  • Currently in your sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school.
