Description
Assist with the coordination and implementation of strategies and activities designed to assist students through the enrollment and advising process. The student intern will work collaboratively with the enrollment center and academic advising to assist students through the steps to enrollment including taking the knowledge assessment. The student intern will reach out to a targeted list of students to help them through the enrollment process and schedule appropriate appointments with SSP (Student Support Professionals) or Academic Advisors for the Columbus Service area.
The internship for the Office of Advising and Enrollment is a part-time nine-month academic year appointment. The student intern will work approximately 20 hours per week. Supervision is provided by the Director of Academic Advising and Enrollment Services
Responsibilities
· Outreach to incoming students via email, phone, and text message to remind them of their deadlines to complete Knowledge Assessment.
· Become a resource to students in the knowledge assessment process and Ed Ready including helping students find a place to take the assessment on campus, assisting with loading or providing the correct math pathway based on program, and providing information on the score needed to take college level English or Math.
· Provide outreach to newly applied students giving them a warm welcome to Ivy Tech and directing them on how to get in touch with their Student Support Professional.
· Utilize reports provided to determine which students will need a reminder communication on completing the Knowledge Assessment.
· Utilize reports provided to determine which students have completed the Knowledge Assessment and are ready to schedule an appointment with their Student Support Professional.
· Schedule student appointments with the appropriate Student Support Professional or Academic Advisor.
The above list of duties is not an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
Qualifications
A successful candidate must be currently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College or another accredited higher education institution. Preference will be given to those with seeking a degree in human services, social work, psychology/counseling, health education, or other related fields. In addition, the following are required professional competencies:
Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and substantial work experience in the following areas:
a. Communication. The student intern must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse groups of individuals at all levels of the community.
b. Neutrality and confidentiality. The student intern must remain non-judgmental and exercise independent judgment and prudence in dealing with sensitive, confidential matters. The intern must maintain strict confidentiality, and demonstrate the ability to treat sensitive or confidential information appropriately.
c. Problem-solving, decision-making, and strategic thinking. The student intern must be able to work with those in need to clarify problems, gather, and analyze relevant information, and provide appropriate options of services and resources.
d. Composure and presentation. The student intern should maintain a professional demeanor, should have strong presentation skills, and should be able to organize and communicate information to groups of varying size and hierarchal levels in the organization
