Description

Monroe Central Jr/Sr High School has an Early Childhood pathway for students. The early childhood education program is committed to educating students to nurture young children's academic, social, and emotional development. We provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where children thrive through structured play, hands-on activities, and guided instruction.

Our internship program is designed to introduce high school students to the field of education, particularly early childhood and elementary learning. This experience will help interns develop professional skills, gain insight into teaching practices, and understand the developmental needs of young learners.

Responsibilities

The intern will be directly supervised by a licensed kindergarten teacher with support from classroom assistants and administrative staff.

  • Supervision will include daily check-ins, observation, and guidance during classroom routines and activities.

  • Training will be provided during the first week, including classroom expectations, safety procedures, child interaction best practices, and confidentiality policies.

  • Mentorship will be ongoing, with the teacher providing feedback, modeling effective classroom strategies, and answering questions. The intern may also participate in occasional team meetings or professional development sessions appropriate to their level.

  • Learning Goals for the Intern

By the end of the internship, the student will:

    • Understand basic classroom management and daily routines in a kindergarten setting.

    • Learn how to support young learners through guided activities, transitions, and positive reinforcement.

    • Build communication and collaboration skills with children and staff.

    • Develop an awareness of child development and early learning standards.

    • Reflect on their interest in pursuing a career in education or a related field.

Qualifications

Interns have to be in the Capstone courses for the Early Childhood Education program.
