Description
Garrett-Keyser-Butler CSD offers a staff childcare and community preschool. Our interns will act as assistant teachers in either the infant, toddler, or preschool classrooms. Interns will be required to complete state professional development training and drug, background, and TB screening to ensure we maintain state licensing requirements. Interns are allowed as teacher assistants as long as they are not left alone with students. There will be supervision by a qualified care giver at all times. The Lead Teacher and Center Director will instruct the intern in proper care and interactions with young children as well as overall procedures of the center and licensing expectations.
Responsibilities
Interns will participate in classroom activites such as:
monitoring the safety and wellbeing of all children in the classroom
supporting daily activities such as arts and crafts, story time, and indoor or outdoor play
Help children with basic needs such as feeding, dressing, washing, and toliet training or diapering
Assist with preparing materials and setting up classroom activities
Clean and sanitize classroom materials in accordance with hygiene procedures, as requested
Cultivate positive relationships with children, staff, and parents
Attend staff meetings, workshops, and trainings as needed
Qualifications
Able to successfully complete background check, drug screen, TB test
Completion of required trainings before beginning classroom work
Previous expereince working with young children
Able to communicate extremely clear directions and concerns
Ability to use sound judgement in critical and adverse situations
