The following related training outline identifies subject matter that must be mastered by the pre-apprentice in order to successfully complete the program. The Following courses will be dual credit courses for pre-apprentices during the senior year of high school.

Gas Metal Arc (MIG) Welding >WELD 207 – 3 Cr. Hrs. Prerequisites: None
This course includes various gas metal welding (GMAW) processes including microwire, flux-core, inner shield, and submerged arc with emphasis on metal inert gas welding. This course is structured to include ample time to practice on GMAW processes including techniques of welding in all positions on various thickness of metal.
Optional: GMAW Active (3G & 4G) or 6G-AWS Cert
Lab time includes: Detailed Overview of welding equipment Overview of welding PPE MIG Welding operation practice with metals of varying thickness Practice of varying welding techniques |

Introduction to Print Reading >WELD 271– 3 Cr. Hrs. Prerequisites: None
Provides the basic concept of reading a fabrication blueprint and covers the different parts of the print. It also provides an understanding of welding symbols used in blueprint reading. Computations of basic measurements including fraction and metrics along with conversion from one to the other are also covered. This course is designed for beginning welders and fabricators, and anyone needing to understand basic fabrication and assembly blueprint.

AWS MIG Certification Prep MFIT WEL10 – Skills-training Prerequisites: None
Apprentices will have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their ability to prepare weldments and attempt to earn a nationally recognized certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) including AWS GMAW D1.1

On the Job Learning (OJL)
Pre-apprentices will gain 10 hours of practical, hands-on experience by working in one of Lippert’s manufacturing facilities during the morning three days per week. In their role, they will be exposed to Lippert's processes and procedures and receive on-the-job training in welding, fabrication, riveting, etc.
Pre-apprentices will receive training in the various work experiences listed below. The order in which this training is given will be determined by the flow of work on the job and will not necessarily be in the order listed. The total term of apprenticeship is indicated below. The following OJL competencies must be mastered by pre-apprentices to complete the program and transition into the Registered Apprenticeship Program, Welder (Fitter – Machine Shop), with Lippert.
