Description
Little Falcon Preschool located at Baker Elementary School has an opening for a preschool intern. The intern will support teachers, engage with young children, and assist in daily activities. Intern will gain hands-on experience in early childhood education in a nurturing, playful environment. Will report to the Preschool Director.
Responsibilities
The intern at Little Falcon Preschool will engage in meaningful instructional and developmental experiences that build both educational skills and professional competencies in a high-quality preschool environment. Interns will be mentored by certified teachers and contribute to the classroom in ways that support student learning, family engagement, and school readiness.
1. Instructional Support & Student Engagement
(Competencies: Teamwork/Collaboration, Professionalism/Work Ethic)

Partner with the lead teacher to facilitate large- and small-group instruction.

Support students in center-based learning by engaging with them through purposeful conversation, play, and guidance.

Demonstrate reliability by being consistently prepared, punctual, and appropriately dressed for an educational setting.
2. Child Observation & Documentation
(Competencies: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Professionalism/Work Ethic)

Conduct structured observations and record developmental milestones using teacher-approved tools.

Analyze student behaviors and reflect on potential learning needs or support strategies in collaboration with the mentor teacher.

Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling student documentation.
3. Leadership in Activity Design & Implementation
(Competencies: Leadership, Critical Thinking/Problem Solving)

Design and lead at least one developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned play-based activity per quarter (e.g., sensory play, early math, literacy games).

Adjust the activity based on student needs, interests, or outcomes, with support from the lead teacher.

Take initiative in preparing materials and leading small groups with confidence and adaptability.
4. Family Engagement Project
(Competencies: Leadership, Teamwork/Collaboration)

Collaborate with the teaching team to design a small-scale project that fosters positive family-school connections (e.g., classroom newsletter, take-home activity bags, or a family event planning outline).

Present the plan to the classroom team for feedback and adjust the project accordingly.

Demonstrate initiative in understanding the school community and its communication needs.
5. Classroom Environment & Behavior Support

Assist in creating a warm, structured classroom environment by helping set up materials and reinforcing daily routines.

Model respectful behavior and help implement classroom behavior supports in a consistent, nurturing manner.

Collaborate with the teaching team to maintain a clean, safe, and engaging environment.
6. Reflection & Professional Growth
(Competencies: Professionalism/Work Ethic, Leadership)

Participate in weekly mentoring sessions to reflect on successes, challenges, and professional goals.

Set personal learning targets and track progress with support from the mentor teacher.

Attend at least one staff meeting or professional learning session to understand broader educational practices.
Qualifications
High School student interested in early childhood education.
