Description
Eastern Greene Schools is a rural K-12 public school district dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community pride and providing high-quality educational experiences. As part of our partnership with Work + Learn Indiana and the EARN program, we are offering a paid Social Media Internship for students interested in marketing, communications, journalism, or digital media.
The intern will be supervised by a designated communications staff member or administrator at Eastern Greene High School. They will receive training in:

School branding and content guidelines.

Photography and videography techniques.

Social media strategy and post scheduling.

Responsible and ethical use of digital platforms.
Mentorship will focus on developing storytelling skills, understanding audience engagement, and building professional communication habits.
Learning Goals for the Intern:
By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:

Plan, create, and publish social media content aligned with the district’s goals.

Capture and edit photos and videos to highlight school events and daily life.

Apply digital marketing strategies to increase community engagement.

Analyze basic social media metrics to measure post effectiveness.

Understand the role of communication in maintaining a positive school image.
Responsibilities
The Social Media Intern will participate in hands-on projects that build professional communication and digital content skills. Duties will be designed to provide an educational, skill-building experience distinct from a standard employee role.
Primary Responsibilities:

Draft and design social media posts for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter).

Capture high-quality photos and short videos of school activities, sports, and events.

Write engaging captions that reflect the school’s voice and mission.

Assist in creating monthly content calendars.

Support promotional campaigns for events, fundraisers, and school initiatives.

Ensure all content aligns with brand and style guidelines.

Highlight student and staff achievements through feature posts.
-
Promote upcoming events and provide timely updates.

Respond appropriately to community interactions under supervisor guidance.
Administrative Work (Less than 25%):

Organize digital files and photo archives.

Update event schedules for content planning.

Track post analytics for reporting purposes.
Qualifications
No prior marketing or professional social media experience is required—just an interest in digital communications and a willingness to learn.
Ideal Candidates Will:

Be creative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Be willing to follow instructions and ask questions when needed.

Listen actively and work well with supervisors and peers.

Use common sense and sound judgment when representing the school online.

Be able to follow multi-step directions and meet deadlines.

Have basic photography, videography, or design skills (preferred but not required).

Be comfortable using social media platforms and open to learning new tools.

Be currently enrolled in high school.
