Description

Eastern Greene Schools is a rural K-12 public school district dedicated to providing high-quality educational experiences that support student growth and development. As part of our partnership with Work + Learn Indiana and the EARN program, we are offering a paid Elementary Education Internship for students interested in pursuing careers in teaching, child development, or education-related fields.

The intern will be supervised by an experienced elementary teacher and will receive training in:

  • Classroom management and organization.

  • Instructional support and student engagement strategies.

  • Developmentally appropriate practices for elementary learners.

  • Professional communication with students, staff, and families.

Mentorship will focus on helping the intern understand the daily responsibilities of an educator, develop instructional skills, and build confidence working with young students.

Learning Goals for the Intern:
By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to:

  1. Assist in delivering engaging and age-appropriate learning activities.

  2. Support classroom routines and procedures to create a positive learning environment.

  3. Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and school staff.

  4. Apply strategies to support diverse learners in the classroom.

  5. Understand the planning, preparation, and reflection that go into effective teaching.

Responsibilities

The Elementary Education Intern will gain hands-on classroom experience by assisting teachers in daily activities while learning the foundational skills of the teaching profession. Tasks will be educational and skill-building, distinct from the duties of a full-time teacher.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in preparing classroom materials and activities.

  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who need extra support.

  • Assist in facilitating classroom lessons and activities under teacher supervision.

  • Help maintain a positive and organized classroom environment.

  • Assist in supervising students during lunch, recess, or special events.

  • Support special projects such as art, science, or literacy activities.

Administrative Work (Less than 25%):

  • Organize classroom supplies or materials.

  • Help prepare bulletin boards or displays.

  • Assist with tracking participation or progress for classroom activities.

Qualifications

No prior teaching experience is required—just an interest in working with children and learning about education.

Ideal Candidates Will:

  • Be patient, dependable, and enthusiastic about working with young learners.

  • Be willing to follow instructions and ask questions when needed.

  • Listen actively and work well with supervisors, peers, and students.

  • Use common sense and professionalism in a school setting.

  • Be able to follow multi-step directions and manage time effectively.

  • Have an interest in teaching, child development, or educational careers.

  • Be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled in high school.
