Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Designer Intern to support our telecom design projects. This internship is
designed for college seniors in their final semester, with the potential to transition into a full-time Fiber
Designer role after graduation.
As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in coaxial and fiber optic network design, learning how to use
industry tools such as AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML) to create accurate design packages.
You will work closely with engineers, field teams, and project managers, contributing to real-world projects
while building valuable technical and professional skills.
This is a part-time position during the semester, with flexible hours to accommodate your class schedule.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
โ Assist in developing and preparing fiber optic and coaxial network designs for new builds,
upgrades, and maintenance projects.
โ Support the creation of construction drawings, as-builts, and permit packages using AutoCAD and
GIS tools.
โ Learn to use QGIS and Google Earth (KMZ/KML) to analyze routes, generate design maps,
and prepare documentation.
โ Perform network path analysis, including aerial and underground plant, splice points, nodes, and
node splits.
โ Collaborate with engineers, field teams, and project managers to ensure accuracy and
constructability of designs.
โ Review redlines, field notes, and survey data to update and maintain accurate design records.
โ Ensure compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and local permitting requirements.
โ Maintain version control and organized documentation for design packages.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
โ Current college senior in Engineering, GIS, or a related field (final semester).
โ Coursework or exposure to AutoCAD, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ/KML files) or related
design software preferred.
โ Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
โ Willingness to learn fiber and coaxial network design standards.
โ Ability to manage time effectively while balancing school and work.
โ Strong communication and teamwork skills.
