The Grant County Economic Growth Council is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote a vibrant, sustainable economy that attracts and empowers business growth and innovation in Grant County, Indiana. By partnering with local businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions, the Council plays a vital role in helping shape a thriving regional economy.
This High School Internship Program offers students a hands-on introduction to the world of economic development and professional office operations. Interns will assist with digitizing records, supporting marketing efforts, and helping coordinate initiatives such as job fairs, industry showcases, and business expansion projects. They’ll also contribute to efforts that connect new businesses with essential resources like available buildings, utilities, and community services.
Interns will be supervised and mentored by experienced staff members specializing in administration, marketing, and business development. Training will include guidance on professional software, filing systems, and communication tools. In addition to daily responsibilities, interns will have opportunities to shadow staff, observe real-world economic development strategies, and engage with local business leaders—building valuable professional connections and gaining insight into career pathways in business, public service, and nonprofit work.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this internship, the student will:
Understand office organization principles and digital record-keeping processes.
Gain experience using professional software and filing systems.
Develop time management and task prioritization skills.
Build confidence in a professional office setting.
Gain exposure to local economic development, business, non-profit, education, and government leaders.
Responsibilities
Digitize and organize physical file archives according to established systems.
Provide support with general office tasks.
Assist with organizing office supplies and maintaining a tidy workspace.
Assist staff with special projects as assigned.
Provide support with marketing efforts.
Collaborate with local businesses, local government leaders, and/or other non-profits on initiatives such as industry showcases, job fairs, and expansion projects.
Help provide information and resources to new businesses on available buildings, sites, utilities, and related needs.
Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Qualifications
Current high school student in good standing (Grant Regional Career Center partnership).
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
Reliable, punctual, and professional in communication and conduct.
Ability to follow directions and work independently after training.
