OVERVIEW:
The School Programs Intern will play a hands-on role in supporting the delivery of engaging, curriculum-based learning experiences for school audiences at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside museum educators to bring arts, humanities, and STEM content to life through preregistered field trip classes, museum-wide school events, Visiting Artist programs, and interactive drop-in activities in the Archaeology Lab.

SCHEDULE:
Candidate must be available on weekday mornings 2–3 days per week. School events typically occur between 10:00 a.m. and noon; classroom-style programs generally run between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare materials for and assist with the facilitation of classroom-style programs connected to exhibits such as American POP, Fireworks of Glass, Take Me There: Peru, The Power of Children, and Treasures of the Earth. Programs may be conducted in person and virtually.
- Prepare materials for and assist with the facilitation of school events, including 100 Days, Fairytale Festival, Art Extravaganza, Museum Showcase, and Kindergarten Days.
- Prepare materials for and assist with Visiting Artist programs.
- Facilitate drop-in programs in the Archaeology Lab.
- Assist with the development of new tabletop activities for Kindergarten Days.
- Provide support for STEM school programs and department-wide projects as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status majoring in Education, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Experience working with children, preferably in grades PK–8 in formal or informal learning environments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of visitors in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to speak clearly and loudly in group settings.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Familiarity with Indiana Academic Standards preferred.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to prepare and carry program materials.
- Ability to present information in a classroom-style setting and speak over background noise.
- Ability to move throughout museum spaces to support programs and events.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move between program areas for extended periods.
