Description

  • Our internship is designed to give students meaningful, hands-on experience supporting active projects while learning how a family-owned construction company delivers excellent work for clients and communities. Interns rotate through key parts of the job to understand how projects move from early planning to completion—while practicing the Sunco values in real situations.
  • How construction really runs: Understand the full project lifecycle from planning to closeout and what drives cost, schedule, and quality decisions.

  • Construction management skills: Learn how teams use schedules, daily reports, RFIs/submittals, and documentation to keep projects moving.

  • Jobsite leadership exposure: See how superintendents and project managers coordinate subcontractors, inspections, safety, and sequencing.

  • Plan-reading confidence: Improve your ability to navigate drawings/specs and connect what’s on paper to what’s built in the field.

  • Professional communication: Practice writing clear updates, taking meeting notes, and communicating with field and office teams.

  • Problem-solving under real constraints: Learn how to identify issues early, ask the right questions, and propose solutions—skills that translate to any career path.

Mentorship
You’ll be coached by experienced Project Managers and Superintendents who provide day-to-day guidance and feedback.

Bottom line: You’ll finish with stronger technical skills, professional habits, and real project experience you can speak to in interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Jobsite observation + reporting: Join jobsite walks, track progress, take field photos, and help create simple daily/weekly progress updates.

  • Plan & spec learning projects: Practice reading drawings/specs and compare plans to what’s being installed in the field (field verification).

  • Quality exposure: Assist with punch list walkthroughs, basic quality checks, and documentation of corrections (with supervision).

  • Schedule & workflow support: Learn how sequencing works by helping track upcoming work, material needs, and key milestones.

  • Subcontractor coordination learning: Shadow coordination between Sunco staff and trade partners; help track action items from jobsite meetings.

  • Documentation that supports real work: Support RFIs/submittals tracking and organize project info so the team can make decisions and keep work moving.

  • Problem-solving tasks: Identify issues observed in the field (missing info, conflicts, safety concerns) and bring them to the supervisor with suggested next steps.

Qualifications

  • Interest in learning about commercial and residential construction and how projects are managed from planning through closeout.

  • Willingness to work in a jobsite environment (outdoors/uneven terrain/noise) and follow all safety requirements, including wearing PPE.

  • Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets/docs) and comfort learning new software/tools.

  • Ability to communicate professionally, ask questions, and take feedback well.

  • Strong attention to detail and a desire to learn quality standards and documentation habits.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
