The Botanical Bar is Indianapolis's premier plant shop and lifestyle brand, recognized nationally by Martha Stewart Living and Entrepreneur Magazine. Operating under the philosophy "nature is therapy," we create inclusive spaces where plants, community, and wellness intersect.
Our Event Management Internship provides hands-on experience in planning and executing community-focused events for a successful retail business. The intern will work directly with the Owner/Founder, receiving one-on-one mentorship in event strategy, community engagement, and small business operations. Weekly check-ins will provide guidance, feedback, and professional development discussions.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Coordination (40%)
- Research and develop monthly workshop concepts (terrarium building, plant care 101, propagation classes)
- Create event timelines, supply lists, and run-of-show documents
- Coordinate with instructors, vendors, and partner organizations
- Design and test workshop formats for optimal customer experience
Marketing & Promotion (25%)
- Create event listings on website and social platforms
- Design promotional graphics using Canva or similar tools
- Write compelling event descriptions and email campaigns
- Partner with social media intern for content coordination
Community Partnerships (20%)
- Identify and reach out to complementary businesses for collaboration
- Develop relationships with local artists, makers, and wellness practitioners
- Coordinate pop-ups and vendor markets
- Represent The Botanical Bar at community meetings/events
Event Execution (10%)
- Set up and break down event spaces
- Welcome attendees and manage check-in process
- Photograph events for future marketing use
- Gather feedback and testimonials
Analysis & Reporting (5%)
- Track attendance, revenue, and customer satisfaction
- Prepare post-event reports with recommendations
- Maintain event calendar and historical database
- Contribute insights to improve future programming
This internship offers real responsibility in shaping our community programming and directly impacts business growth. The ideal candidate will see their ideas come to life and build a portfolio of successful events.
Qualifications
Required:
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a college/university program (Marketing, Communications, Business, Hospitality, or related field)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills including Google Suite and social media platforms
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks
- Available 10-15 hours per week, including some evenings/weekends for events
- Passion for plants, sustainability, or community building
- Reliable transportation to The Botanical Bar
Preferred (but not required):
- Interest in event planning, marketing, or small business
- Creative mindset with willingness to share ideas
- Experience with Canva or basic design tools (will train if needed)
- Comfortable interacting with customers and vendors
- Previous volunteer or student organization event experience
