Description
The Student Apprentice participates in the Early Childhood Education Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program (ECE RTAP), a two-year, competency-based, paid apprenticeship designed for high school students pursuing a career in early childhood education. Apprentices gain hands-on, job-embedded experience in licensed early care and education environments while completing aligned high school and dual-credit coursework. Under the guidance of a mentor educator, apprentices develop foundational skills to support young children’s learning, development, and well-being while meeting graduation pathway requirements and earning college credit.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Apply concepts learned through related instruction to real-world classroom practice.
- Maintain accurate records of on-the-job training (OJT) hours and competency progress.
- Participate in mentorship activities, feedback sessions, and ongoing professional development.
- Adhere to all expectations outlined in the Apprentice Handbook, school handbook, and placement site guidelines.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
