Description
General Devices Co., Inc. is offering an Engineering Internship for students interested in manufacturing, product design, and real-world problem solving. This position provides exposure to the full lifecycle of a product from CAD design, development of production processes and production masters, and prototyping to fabrication.
You will work alongside engineers, quality, and production teams to understand how engineered sheet metal products move from concept to finished deliverable.
Our company manufactures telescoping slides, electronic enclosures, rack-mount equipment, and custom sheet metal assemblies used in defense, aerospace, and industrial systems.
We work with production processes such as Laser cutting, machining, Bending, stamping, spotwelding, Mig and Tig welding, laser welding, powder coating and other types of finishing,
Responsibilities
- Assisting with CAD models and engineering drawings using Inventor, particularly if there is a REV update.
- Learning how parts are manufactured through laser cutting, press brake forming, welding, and assembly
- Observing and assisting with manufacturing process improvements
- Helping engineers evaluate design changes for manufacturability
- Measuring and inspecting fabricated parts
- Assisting with documentation, work instructions, and engineering change updates
- Assisting with improvements to our ERP (Enterprise Resource Management) software to evaluate costs, and ensure the actual correct steps of production are captured
- Working directly with shop personnel to understand how designs translate to real production
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar
- Basic familiarity with CAD software (Inventor preferred but not required)
- Ability to read or learn to read engineering drawings and prints
