API & Web Development Intern
Description
Describe your organization and your internship program.
Tier One Prestige is an innovative startup dedicated to celebrating the highest achievements in competitive gaming by manufacturing premium, physical trophies for digital victories. We bridge the gap between digital grinding and physical recognition. Our internship program is designed to be a highly immersive, hands-on experience within a fast-paced startup environment. Interns do not just shadow; they actively build and refine the core technical infrastructure of the business. We provide students with the unique opportunity to take ownership of critical projects and gain real-world experience in launching a tech-integrated e-commerce product to a global market.
List what type of supervision, training and mentorship the intern will receive, and from whom.
The intern will work directly alongside the founding team, receiving daily supervision, strategic guidance, and mentorship from myself, the Chief Executive Officer, and our Chief Operating Officer, Rudy. Training will be highly practical and project-based. We will conduct daily stand-up meetings to review development progress, troubleshoot technical roadblocks within the verification loop, and align the website build with our immediate go-to-market strategy. Mentorship will extend beyond just coding; the intern will get a front-row seat to startup operations, learning how technical decisions directly impact customer acquisition and business scalability.
What learning goals do you have for the intern?
Our primary learning goal is for the intern to successfully build and deploy a secure backend API verification loop that accurately authenticates third-party digital gaming achievements. Additionally, they will learn how to optimize an e-commerce platform for a seamless user experience (UX), from the landing page to the checkout process. By the end of the internship, they will have developed a robust understanding of how to manage a live web environment, troubleshoot live code, and execute the rapid iteration cycles required in a lean tech startup.
Responsibilities
Project 1: API Verification Development (Primary Focus) The intern will be tasked with building and stress-testing our core API verification loop. This project involves writing and testing scripts to securely authenticate digital in-game achievements from third-party gaming servers and integrating that data with our storefront. Instead of managing live production databases like a standard IT employee, the intern will operate in a developmental sandbox, allowing them to learn system architecture and API integration by building a standalone feature from the ground up.
Project 2: E-Commerce Platform Build & Optimization The intern will also take on a secondary project focused on our website's user experience (UX). They will map out and refine the user journey from the landing page through the checkout process, ensuring the platform runs smoothly and handles custom trophy orders efficiently.
Differentiation from Standard Employment & Administrative Limits Unlike a standard employee who might be tasked with routine daily tech support or maintaining legacy systems, this intern is focused entirely on distinct, forward-looking development projects. Administrative duties—such as documenting their code, logging bugs, or scheduling sprint reviews—will strictly account for less than 10% of their time. The vast majority of their internship will be hands-on: writing code, testing API endpoints, and executing platform development.
