Description

Northeast Mechanical Services is a Fort Wayne, Indiana-based heating, cooling, and plumbing company with over 40 years of residential and light commercial service experience. We are a YORK Factory Authorized Dealer, hold an A+ BBB rating, and maintain a team of experienced installation and service technicians serving Northeast Indiana.

Interns will be placed directly in the field alongside a lead installer or lead service technician who will serve as their primary supervisor and mentor throughout the program. That lead will provide hands-on instruction, real-time guidance, and day-to-day oversight on every job. Interns will not work independently — they are always paired with an experienced tradesperson.

Learning goals for the intern include: understanding how residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems are installed and serviced; developing foundational knowledge of furnace and air conditioner operation and troubleshooting; learning how to use hand and power tools safely and correctly in a field environment; and building the habit of applying critical thinking to diagnose and solve mechanical problems.

Responsibilities

Interns at Northeast Mechanical Services work entirely in the field — there is no office or administrative component to this role. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting lead technicians and installers with the installation and servicing of furnaces, air conditioners, and related HVAC equipment; learning to identify system components and understand their function; carrying and staging equipment and materials on job sites; observing and participating in diagnostic procedures under direct supervision; and maintaining a professional, safe, and organized presence on every job site. Responsibilities will progress as the intern demonstrates competency, with increasing hands-on participation over the course of the internship.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is someone who wants to get their hands dirty and learn a skilled trade from the ground up. No prior HVAC experience is required — we are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the physical ability to work in a field environment. Candidates should be dependable, show up on time and ready to work, take direction well, and have a genuine interest in building a career in the trades. A desire to solve problems and think critically on the job is a plus.
