Position Overview:

Petry Excavating, Inc. is seeking a reliable and motivated part-time intern to assist with daily administrative and accounting-related tasks in our growing business. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to business operations, basic accounting practices, and professional office procedures in a supportive and supervised environment.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Understanding office operations specific to an excavation and contracting business
  • Exposure to job costing, vendor management, and compliance documentation
  • Development of professional workplace habits and organizational skills
  • Experience working with accounting and office software systems

Responsibilities

  • Scan, organize, and electronically file company documents
  • Assist with financial record keeping and basic data entry
  • Review and audit financial records for accuracy and compliance under supervision
  • Verify and reconcile monthly vendor statements
  • Organize invoices, receipts, and supporting accounting documentation
  • Assist with maintaining organized project and job-related records
  • Perform general office administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and document preparation
  • Provide support to office staff with special projects as needed
  • Limited exposure to project management and job cost documentation

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in high school
  • Interest in business, accounting, construction management, or office administration
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar)
  • Ability to follow instructions and handle confidential information responsibly
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor
  • Reliable transportation to and from the office.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
