Description

Modern Materials, Inc. is an industrial finisher providing coating services such as powder coating, wet paint and cast iron seasoning. We are pleased to have two internship seats available serving our engineering team. Our internship opportunities are designed to offer our team the extra help they need, while giving young people the opportunity to put their skills to work in a safe environment in a great culture.

Our engineering team includes a quality manager (responsible for process control solutions and compliance,)  a systems engineer (responsible for information systems and process design,) and a special projects leader (responsible for problem solving and targeted improvement efforts.) Each of these team members are qualified to train and mentor. The "Engineering Assistant" internship role offers young people the opportunity to work directly with a member of the Modern Materials, inc. engineering team providing part time support monitoring and sampling process outputs, designing and building fixturing and masking solutions, and writing and publishing work instruction details. The engineering team trains interns and coaches them, helping them to learn more about what they enjoy and what they are gifted for.

The internship program supports our training programs and engineering team members while also helping us to offer young people the opportunity to try out their skills in a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

*Assist with work instruction development and maintenance (photo editing, writing short descriptions and instructions, linking photos to the digital work instructions, managing revision dates and levels)

*Assist with process output sampling (measure coating quality and document results, assist with rework efforts as necessary and help with developing corrective measures.)

*Assist with designing and building fixturing and masking solutions (sketches, problem solving, trials, measurement)

Learning Objectives

Engineering interns are expected to learn the flow of production processes and how to summarize and communicate effectively key process measurables and instructions. Also, interns will learn to assess a system and recognize bottlenecks and problem points to be able to implement process improvements and solve problems.
