CURRENT MECHANICAL INTERNSHIP
Description
We pair high school students with a Local 166 Plumbers, Steamfitters, and HVAC techs union Fab Shop Foreman to supervise the intern as they learn skills related to welding, plumbing, and HVAC service while working in our Fabrication shop and Field to learn the trade with a hands on approach.
Responsibilities
They will be assisiting journeymen/foreman/apprentices learning the trade under the supervison of our fab shop foreman and field superintendent.
Assist co-workers with tool and material handling duties.
Assist in hanging of pipe if the task requires two or more employees.
Assist with housekeeping and safety inspections on the job site or in the fab shop.
Observation, but not actual performance of service work, welding, fitting for a welder, soldering,
testing or cutting of any pipe installations.
Assist with collecting and organizing time sheets, material charge sheets, field fabrication drawings, tool box safety talks, MSDS safety sheets, and packing slips - (the intern will not spend more than 25% of their day on admin duties)
Learning to use, maintain and clean shop small tools and shop equipment such as Bandsaw, Pirhana Iron worker, forklifts, etc.
