Description
Randolph Eastern School Corporation is seeking a high school intern to assist in the Athletic Department as an activities coordinator. The position is a good opportunity to learn and gain experience in working as a business professional. The intern will be provided daily/weekly training, feedback, and support from the assigned supervisor. The ideal candidate is a student who has knowledge about school athletics/sports, strong customer service skills, strong computer skills, and the ability to learn processes quickly, and organize and implement school-related events/activities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of duties in support of the Athletic Department; receives and directs telephone calls and visitors; and provides information on athletic events, activities, camps, and other related programs.
- Provides customer service, information, referrals, and assistance to the public, staff, students, and other departments in reference to assigned areas of responsibility including applicable forms.
- Will assist in the coordination and operation of various athletic programs and activities, including but not limited to scheduling, event arrangements, setup, marketing, take down/clean up, and other related duties.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with individual supervisors/mentors who will provide training, feedback, and support to the intern during work hours.
- Utilizes Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint to complete assigned documents, reports, and/or presentations.
- Operates a variety of office equipment including copiers, postage meters, and computer software; inputs and retrieves data and text; organizes and maintains files.
- Assists with inventory and organizing of athletic materials, supplies, and equipment both indoor and outdoor events/activities.
- Attends, participates, and reports in departmental meetings as assigned.
- Assist in other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of school athletic activities and/or events.
- Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to establish effective working relationships with school personnel, parents, students, and community members.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work within a team environment or as an individual.
- Must be able to demonstrate and always maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Proficient use of MS Office and Google Suite.
- General understanding and ability to learn office operations, records management, office equipment, workflow, etc.
- Must demonstrate professional work ethic and excellent attendance.

- Develop leadership and teamwork skills by collaborating with coaches, staff, students, volunteers, and community members to support successful athletic programs and events.

- Understand the operational functions of an athletic department including scheduling, inventory management, event logistics, budgeting considerations, and facility coordination.
- Demonstrate problem-solving and adaptability by responding appropriately to challenges and changing circumstances during athletic events and activities.
- Maintain accurate records and organizational systems related to athletic equipment, supplies, event planning, and departmental operations.
- Develop marketing and promotional skills by assisting with outreach efforts, event promotion, and communication strategies that increase participation and community engagement.
- Explore careers in athletics, sports management, event planning, business administration, recreation, and education through hands-on experience and mentorship.
To demonstrate mastery of internship objectives, the student will:
- Assist in planning and supporting multiple athletic events or activities throughout the internship.
- Create or contribute to promotional materials, schedules, reports, or presentations using workplace technology tools.
- Demonstrate effective customer service skills when interacting with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Participate in departmental meetings and communicate progress on assigned projects.
- Maintain organized records and inventory systems for athletic supplies and equipment.
