The Play Schools are a private, family-owned and operated small business specializing in the best EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION in Carmel and Fishers, IN. We are rewarding, fun, collaborative and our goal is to find caring, professional individuals with Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or Child Development backgrounds to teach in our curriculum-based, state-licensed preschools in Fishers and Carmel, Indiana.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching young children and be able to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that encourages learning and development. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate activities, providing guidance and support to students, and engaging in meaningful conversations with parents.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivery of services of a specific room of children based on NAEYC’s developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Maintaining Board of Health and State Licensing regulation for proper care, safety and program delivery for the children in your care.
- Modeling appropriate beahvior and implementing positive discipline techniques when interacting with the children. Corporal punishment, “Time Outs” and/or harsh, humiliating treatment are prohibited.
- Keeping current records for assessment of each child’s development.
- Maintaining proper documentation of attendance, medicines, injuries, etc.
- Assisting administration in the transition of children to new classrooms and the placement of new children in the program.
- Planning and implementing daily/weekly activities and plans that follow developmentally appropriate guidelines for a particular group.
- Greeting parents and children each day and helping with transitions whenever needed.
- Keeping communication and relations with parents positive and professional.
- Assisting in the daily maintenance of the center, classrooms and grounds to assure neatness. Cleanliness, and safety.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED: This is usually the minimum requirement.
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Degree or Certificate: Many childcare centers or schools require teachers to have a degree or certification in early childhood education. This could range from an associate's degree to a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.
- CPR and First Aid Certification: Childcare teachers often need to be certified in CPR and First Aid to respond to emergencies.
- Experience Working with Children: This can often be gained through internships, volunteering, or previous childcare-related roles. Many programs also require a certain number of hours working directly with children.
- Teaching or Classroom Experience: Having experience working in a classroom setting with children is often required, especially for more advanced teaching positions.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience and Flexibility: The ability to stay calm and adapt to various situations is important when working with children.
- Organizational Skills: Keeping track of lesson plans, activities, and children's progress is key in a childcare teacher role.
