Description

The Branch Gathering Place + Coffee House is a community coffee house operated by A41, Inc. a community nonprofit serving Decatur County through programs, partnerships, and leadership development. The Branch exists as both a welcoming gathering place and a social enterprise, using business as a platform to strengthen the community and support the organization's broader mission.

Our work-based learning program is designed to give students meaningful, hands-on experience in professional marketing while developing transferable workplace skills. Rather than observing from the sidelines, interns become active members of our communications team, contributing to real campaigns, events, and projects that impact thousands of people in our community.

The learner will receive direct supervision and mentorship from the organization's Executive Director, who brings experience in nonprofit leadership, branding, marketing strategy, and executive consulting. The intern will also work alongside The Branch leadership team and staff, receiving coaching on communication, customer engagement, project management, and professional expectations.

Training will include:

  1. Brand identity and messaging
  2. Social media strategy and content planning
  3. Photography and videography for marketing
  4. Graphic design using Canva and Adobe tools
  5. Copywriting for digital communications
  6. Google Business Profile management
  7. Marketing analytics and performance measurement
  8. Project planning, organization, and deadline management
  9. Professional communication and workplace etiquette

This internship is intentionally structured to bridge classroom learning with real-world application, providing the learner with substantial responsibility, regular feedback, and opportunities for professional growth while advancing the mission of a nonprofit organization that serves the local community.

Responsibilities

The learner will complete project-based marketing assignments that provide hands-on experience in communications rather than performing the routine duties of a standard employee. Responsibilities will include creating social media content, designing graphics, capturing photo and video, writing marketing copy, assisting with campaign planning, supporting community events, and analyzing marketing performance. The intern will also participate in creative planning meetings and receive regular feedback and mentorship. Administrative tasks will be limited to those directly related to marketing projects and will account for less than 25% of the internship experience.

  1. Interest in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related field
  2. Familiarity with Canva or similar design software preferred
  3. Basic experience creating social media content (personal, school, volunteer, or professional)
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  5. Organized, dependable, and willing to learn
