Description

The Southridge High School Education Pathway prepares students for future careers in teaching, child development, and educational support roles. Learners gain hands-on experience in real classrooms while developing professional skills, instructional strategies, and confidence working with children and adolescents.

This program is part of the broader Ivy Tech dual‑credit teacher‑prep partnership, giving students early exposure to the expectations and responsibilities of the education profession.

Responsibilities

Education Pathway interns at Southridge High School support classrooms through hands-on instructional tasks such as assisting small groups, helping individual learners, preparing materials, using classroom technology, and observing teaching strategies. They also build professional skills through communication practice, collaboration with educators, and structured reflection. Creative, student-centered projects—like designing visual aids or helping with classroom events—give interns meaningful ownership while staying within appropriate boundaries. Administrative work is intentionally limited to simple, learning-connected tasks such as organizing materials or occasional copying, keeping clerical duties well under 25% and ensuring the experience remains focused on skill development and career exploration.

Qualifications

Education Pathway interns at Southridge High School are expected to demonstrate strong communication skills, reliability, professionalism, and a genuine interest in working with children and adolescents. They should be able to follow directions, collaborate with supervising teachers, maintain confidentiality, and model appropriate behavior in a school setting. Interns must show initiative, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new instructional strategies while supporting classroom routines and student engagement. These qualifications ensure the learner can grow in confidence, skill, and readiness for future roles in education.
