Description

Harrison County Community Services, Inc. (HCCS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Corydon, Indiana, dedicated to serving as a vital safety net for local residents. Established in 1976, HCCS works to help individuals, children, and families meet their basic needs and achieve long-term stability through direct support and community development programs. Key services include monthly food pantry distributions, mobile food pantries, emergency utility and eviction prevention assistance, and community meal programs operated in partnership with local partners.

Responsibilities

Social Media Management: Assist with: Draft, schedule, and publish engaging content across core social channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), while tracking post-performance and basic engagement metrics.

Website Maintenance: Assist with regular updates to key pages on the organization's website, such as updating event listings, publishing announcements, or uploading fresh photos and news.

Digital Newsletters: Help assemble and format routine digital email newsletters, including gathering photos, writing brief updates, and scheduling broadcasts.

Content Creation: Produce basic visual graphics, photos, and short written copy for social posts, web stories, and email communications.

Marketing Support: Brainstorm creative ideas to reach the local audience in Corydon and Harrison County

Qualifications

Student Status: Currently enrolled high school or college student pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Business, or a related field.

Social Media Familiarity: Familiarity with major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) from an organizational or professional perspective.

Communication Skills: Strong written communication and proofreading skills.

Technical & Content Tools: Basic experience with, or a willingness to learn, content creation tools such as Canva, Sway, Mailchimp, and WordPress/CMS platforms.

Reliability & Location: Dependable, possesses high attention to detail, and able to report on-site in Corydon, IN for 3 to 5 hours per week.

Learning Objectives

Social Media Management & Analytics: Learn to create, schedule, and publish branded content across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) while tracking post performance and basic engagement metrics.

Digital Content Creation: Gain experience developing visual graphics, capturing photos, and writing targeted copy using professional design and layout tools (e.g., Canva, Sway).

Email Marketing Operations: Learn to assemble, format, and schedule routine digital newsletters through email broadcast platforms (e.g., Mailchimp).

Website & CMS Maintenance: Acquire basic web management skills by updating key pages, posting announcements, uploading media, and publishing news on a Content Management System (CMS).

Strategic Brand Communications & Portfolio Building: Apply real-world multi-channel digital marketing techniques to engage a local audience, while assembling professional writing, design, and campaign samples for a career portfolio.
